Thanksgiving is a Christian holiday that has existed for almost 2000 years. It is the act of thanking God for the bountiful harvest. Thanksgiving replaced the worship of the gods or goddesses of fertility, like Demeter, Isis, Cybele. With the colonization of North America, it really becomes important. In both Canada and the US, it is a celebration of the harvest. Samuel de Champlain organized something similar to Thanksgiving celebration, « l’Ordre du bon temps », in 1606. In the autumn of 1621 autumn, the Pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving in Plymouth, Massachusetts. We should not forget, however, that without the help of Native Americans, there would not have been a Thanksgiving feast at all.
